Carrie Mae Weems & Dawoud Bey

Embarrassed to say, but I was only vaguely familiar with the work of Dawoud Bey before listening to this conversation between him and longtime contemporary, Carrie Mae Weems. Together they share beautiful anecdotes about their friendship, and experiences making pictures.

Bey later mentions Harlem photographer Roy DeCarava, which prompts moderator LeRonn Brooks to read a quote by DeCarava. The conversation then leads to DeCarava’s collaboration with Langston Hughes, a book titled “The Sweet Flypaper of Life”. Video walkthrough of that book below:
