“A scrapped piece of paper, a bookmark does not make.”
One day, as a substitute teacher, I watched an English Language Arts teacher pass out irregular scraps of paper as bookmarks to the students. In my experience, middle school students are rarely excited to read, so at the very least, I want to incentivize them by providing hand-drawn, hand-colored bookmarks. Granted, it’s a small and humble endeavor, but the goal is to provide a spark of positivity and inspiration whenever they open their books. It’s a small gift that reminds them that someone is thinking of them, and encouraging them to stay reading.
